Description: Meiko Inoue is a recent college grad working as an office lady in a job she hates. Her boyfriend Naruo is permanently crashing at her apartment because his job as a freelance illustrator doesn't pay enough for rent. And her parents in the country keep sending her boxes of veggies that just rot in her fridge. Straddling the line between her years as a student and the rest of her life, Meiko struggles with the feeling that she's just not cut out to be a part of the real world.
My Review: I was in a mood for art; between lengthy chunks of wordy literature I need pictures. I barely worked through three pages of this. I have a pet peeve when it comes to Japanese lit, I hate whining. I don't mind, AS MUCH, when they whine in TV drama or in movies. But I especially hate when they whine in manga. And of course our little heroine is a whiner. The main complaint of the Japanese youth will be that grownups do not understand them and that they are all sheep. Okay...and the result in the end? Well, the hero/heroine usual goes ovine. They understand. They becomes adults. Another nail is hammered into place. I wonder if the authors even realize what they do to their rebel characters.
Meiko, the heroine, is angry with the world. And she quite clearly states that she wants kill everyone she comes in contact with. Oh yeah that'll solve things. Kill me please. All I was capable of doing was wordlessly scoff, astonished puffs of air leaving my mouth. Since I do not harbor grand visions of murderous intentions I could not relate to Meiko, nor did I care to. My neck needed to be un-cricked (in a swift, violent manner) and the book needed to be thrown on the floor (also violently).
If you could not tell I was not compelled to read more than just those few pages, I was halted by the display that was Meiko's personality. I am sure Meiko turns it all around, and becomes less bitter. Finds a better calling in life. Blah, blah, BLAH!
Rating: Did Not Finish
The movie actually does not look too bad. Doubt I'll watch it though.
